What To Expect - Your First Visit - Conditions We Treat

What to Expect

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office, but they won't.

What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel when I insert them. When gently stimulating the needles, this may produce a unique sensation that Traditional Chinese medicine calls de qi

Patients often describe de qi as a heavy, achy pressure or spreading, traveling feeling. Though this is less common, you may also feel an "electrical" sensation moving down the meridian pathways. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling mentally and physically relaxed.

Acupuncture treatment creates deep relaxation
in both mind and body.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The positive effects of acupuncture accumulate over time, so it's usually recommended to have multiple treatments. Acute conditions typically require 10 to 15 treatments, with relief often experienced after the first few sessions. Chronic conditions may take longer to improve, depending on their type, severity, and duration. Additionally, preventative and general well-being treatments can be scheduled as needed.

Your First Visit

The acupuncture intake process will involve questions about your current state of health, past illnesses, and family medical history.

Before Arrival

Before arriving to your scheduled appointment, please print, fill out the following documents, and have them ready to submit on arrival. Thank you!

Acupuncture Informed Consent Form (PDF): Download
Acupuncture Intake & Medical History Form (PDF): Download

Upon Arrival

Upon your initial acupuncture appointment, if you have not already submitted them, you will be asked to complete a consent and a thorough intake form. This document will gather information about your health status, past ailments, and family medical history. These inquiries are of utmost importance as Traditional Chinese medicine adopts a comprehensive approach, considering all facets of your well-being, so please answer as completely and thoroughly as possible. While your current symptoms may appear unrelated to past health issues, our bodies are intricate, and every experience leaves an imprint.

The selection of acupuncture points will be based on your specific condition and needs. Then we'll begin your first treatment. Upon inserting the needles, you can comfortably rest for 15-20 minutes with the needles in place. Many individuals find acupuncture treatment profoundly relaxing, and it is common for patients to drift into sleep during this period.
